Why This Cross Matters
NL1 x THH is a straightforward genetic pairing with real intention behind it. You're looking at pure Northern Lights #1, the Afghan indica landrace that built a reputation on resin production and compact structure, crossed with Tom Hill's Haze, a sativa-dominant strain carrying legitimate classic Haze lineage. The goal was simple: blend NL1's vigorous growth, high yields, and earthy foundation with the cerebral lift and structural complexity that Haze brings. Whether Crickets & Cicada nailed it depends on which phenotype you run.
What Each Parent Contributes
Northern Lights #1 is the workhorse here. You get fast flowering, tight internodal spacing, heavy resin production, and the kind of yield density that makes commercial growers comfortable. The plant structure is bushy and manageable. Flavor runs earthy, sometimes with subtle spice undertones. The high is straightforward indica: body-forward, grounding, no surprises.
Tom Hill's Haze brings the variable element. Classic Haze genetics mean extended flowering, taller plants, and that sativa structure that stretches during bloom. The cerebral effect is there, the uplifting quality that separates Haze from pure indica work. Aroma tends toward citrus and floral notes with some spice. Growth is lankier, more demanding of vertical space, but the resin production is legitimate.
Phenotype Variation
This cross will throw both directions. Expect indica-leaning plants that favor the NL1 side: compact, fast, heavy resin, done in eight to nine weeks. These are the reliable cuts. You'll also see rarer sativa phenotypes that show extended flowering, taller growth, and that Haze structure. These take longer, need more space, but the effect profile shifts noticeably toward the cerebral. Phenotype hunting here is worth the effort if you have the room and patience.
Finding the Keeper
Start by watching structure early. Indica-leaning plants show compact growth and tight branching by week three or four. Sativa phenotypes stretch more aggressively and develop longer internodes. Both are viable; it depends on your setup. During flowering, watch resin development. NL1 influence shows heavy trichome production early. Haze influence shows slower resin buildup but often higher potency at finish. Aroma is your second filter. Earthy, spicy notes suggest NL1 dominance. Citrus and floral notes suggest Haze influence. Cut and test the most resinous plant from each phenotype type. You'll find your keeper.
In The Garden
NL1 x THH responds well to standard feeding schedules. Indica-leaning phenotypes finish in eight to nine weeks and handle moderate nutrient loads without complaint. Sativa phenotypes need ten to twelve weeks and benefit from consistent calcium and magnesium support during the stretch. Yields are solid across both types if you manage canopy and light distribution. No exotic requirements. This is genetics that work.
The Experience
Indica-leaning phenotypes deliver the body effect you expect from NL1: relaxation, physical comfort, straightforward. Sativa phenotypes shift the profile noticeably toward mental clarity and uplift, with less couch lock. The cross achieves what it set out to do: a hybrid that doesn't collapse into pure sedation and doesn't run pure sativa energy. The middle ground is real.
About This Release
These seeds came from my personal vault. Acquired between 2012 and 2020. Stored correctly. Set aside as breeding stock and genetic preservation, not retail inventory. Never offered publicly. Never shelved. Upcoming legislation changes what can be legally sold and shipped. This release is happening now because the window is closing. Once these are gone, they stay gone. No restock. No new run. If you're serious about this cross, this is the only opportunity.
