Frequently Asked Questions About Cannabis Clones
Ordering cannabis clones online raises a lot of questions β especially if it is your first time. Below you will find straightforward answers to the questions our customers ask most, from clone health and shipping to rooting timelines and legal considerations. If your question is not covered here, reach out to our team anytime.
What are cannabis clones?
Cannabis clones are cuttings taken from a mature mother plant. Each cutting is genetically identical to the mother, which means the strain, terpene profile, potency, and growth characteristics are already locked in before the clone ever touches soil. Clones skip the seedling phase entirely, giving growers a head start on the vegetative cycle.
Are your clones tested for pests and disease?
Yes. Every clone that ships from Seeds Here Now is inspected and tested before it leaves our facility. We screen for hop latent viroid (HLVd), powdery mildew, russet mites, and other common pathogens. Only organic preventative treatments are used, and strict sanitation protocols β including fresh razors and fresh rooting gel per strain β are followed at every stage. For full details, see our clone ordering page.
How are clones shipped?
Clones ship via priority express within the continental United States. Each clone is carefully packaged in a humidity-controlled container to keep it alive and healthy during transit. We currently do not ship clones to Hawaii or outside the US. An adult signature (18+) is required upon delivery due to current hemp shipping regulations.
Why is there a $10 adult signature fee?
Recent regulatory changes require an adult signature for live cannabis clone shipments. The $10 fee is a carrier-imposed charge that we pass through at cost β Seeds Here Now does not mark it up or profit from it.
How long does it take for clones to root?
Most clones develop a healthy root system within 7 to 14 days after cutting, depending on the strain, environment, and rooting method. Some strains root faster than others. Keeping humidity high (around 75β85%), temperatures stable (72β78Β°F), and light intensity low during the first week helps clones establish roots quickly. For a deeper dive, read our guide on how long cannabis clones take to root.
What is the best way to care for clones after they arrive?
When your clones arrive, remove them from packaging immediately and place them under low-intensity light (T5 fluorescent or a dimmed LED). Mist the leaves lightly and keep them in a humid environment β a dome or humidity tray works well. Avoid direct high-intensity light or heavy feeding for the first 3 to 5 days while the clones acclimate. Gradually increase light intensity as they show new growth.
Can I grow clones outdoors?
Absolutely. Clones perform well outdoors once they have been hardened off β gradually exposed to direct sunlight, wind, and temperature swings over a 5- to 7-day period. Starting clones indoors and transitioning them outside in late spring gives them the strongest start. Check out our guide on the best cannabis clones to grow outdoors.
Clones vs. seeds β which is better?
Neither is universally better β it depends on your goals. Clones give you a guaranteed female plant with known genetics, a faster start, and consistency across harvests. Seeds offer genetic diversity, the ability to hunt for unique phenotypes, and often stronger taproots. We cover this in detail in our clones vs. seeds comparison.
Do you guarantee clone health?
Yes. Seeds Here Now guarantees that every clone arrives free of pests, mold, and disease. If a clone arrives damaged or unhealthy, contact our team within 48 hours of delivery and we will make it right. Visit our clone replacement form if you need to file a claim.
What strains are available as clones?
Our clone selection rotates regularly and features verified breeder cuts from top-tier genetics programs. Availability changes based on mother plant health, demand, and seasonal production cycles. Browse our current clone inventory to see what is in stock right now.
Can I order clones and seeds in the same order?
Yes. You can add both clones and seeds to the same cart. They may ship separately depending on packaging and timing requirements, but they can be placed in a single order.
Do clones flower faster than plants grown from seed?
Clones are already mature tissue, so they can be flipped to flower immediately if desired (though a short veg period is recommended for yield). Seed-grown plants need to reach sexual maturity first, which adds a few weeks. In practice, growers using clones often harvest 2 to 4 weeks sooner than identical strains started from seed.
