Humboldt Seed Company is a story of family, science, and a deep-rooted passion for the plant. The company is led by its founder, visionary breeder Nathaniel “Nat” Pennington, and his dedicated daughter, Hallie.

Founded by biologists in 2001 , the company’s mission was born from compassion. They initially focused on breeding stable, high-quality genetics for patients under California’s Prop 215. Nat, who worked in Salmon genomics before focusing on cannabis, has been breeding and working on river restoration in Humboldt County for over 20 years. This legacy of science, stewardship, and a patient-first ethos guides the company to this day.

In 2018, Humboldt Seed Company organized the World’s Largest Phenotype Hunt. This massive collaborative effort involved teaming with local farmers, industry experts, and top researchers to identify the top percentile clones from 10,000 samples.
